All grade levels use the elements of art to organize their compositions: line, color, shape, texture, form, value and space. We build and develop our skills from year to year...
Kindergarteners focus on using shapes to describe the world in images. They learn about the basic color groups and how to mix them.
First graders go a step further and foucs on how line creates details, textures and define contours. We expand our use of color groups and explore famous artists and cultures.
Second graders use texture to create weavings. We discuss value, how light and shadow effect our world. More cultures and artists are explored to see how they use the elements. Drawing skills become important.
Third graders develop great drawing skills by exploring three dimensional forms and how to use them to descrie the world. They add value totheir work to create shadows. They try many new techniques like Impressionism and one point perspective by studying artists and cultures.
Fourth and fifth graders step it up by broadening their drawing skills, mixing complex color and exploring design techniques. We study realism and abstract art and the cultures and artists that bring them to life.
