Fourth graders are working on using the element of value to create symmetrical Tiki faces. We learned about Easter Island and the traditional Moai statues made by the Rapa Nui people.
Students are learning about portrait drawing and realism. They chose a coach from the television show The Voice to try to replicate. We learned that there are certain guidelines that can be applied to portrait drawing to help with facial proportions.
Fourth graders are studying Ancient Egyptian history. Sketches are being made using Egyptian symbols and modern symbols to represent the students lives. Students are researching images on laptops to make their symbols more accurate. Our final creation will be an Egyptian throne like the one found in King Tut's tomb.

Fourth graders in Mrs. Kunel's class started sketches for still life drawing. Colorful bottles were arranged at the end of the table and students used line and shape to draw the overlapping items.
Mr. Coen's class earned a free-choice art day for having the most class points in fourth grade! Points were earned when the class demonstrated Panther Basics-safety, responsibility, respect and problem solving. Students chose to design puzzles, make a reading fort, build with Legos, use modeling clay, draw cartoons and watercolor.
Fourth graders learned about Elephant Festival in Jaipur, India. We are creating our own elelphants using many textures and colors. We are currently sewing our "jhools", the beautiful blankets that are placed on the elephants back.
Fourth graders studied the art work of Pablo Picasso and his cubist style. We discovered that Picasso loved using moody colors and shapes to create portraits of people. Students drew Cubist self portraits then chose colors to reflect a certain mood or characteristics of their persponality.
