Kinders use warm colors to create aunsets
Kinders used warm colors to create sunsets with silhouettes.
Kinders are learning all about the primary and secondary colors. They discovered that yellow and blue make green. We added a few details to make Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
Practicing cutting circles is hard work!
We are spending the first few weeks of school exploring media in Art-drawing, using stencils, collage with cut paper, modeling clay and 3D construction.
2013-14 School Year
We are learning all about texture! We played a game where we reached into a box and grabbed something inside and described it's texture before pulling it out to see what it was. We then traced our shoe (pic 3) and added shapes to create a "SHoe Fly". Using texture plates, students colored each area of the fly differently (pic 1 and 2).
STudents have started experimenting with primary colors to create other colors, like secondaries. We studied the art if Wassily Kandinsky (picutred on the left) and how he experiemented with color and circles. Students created their own concentric circle paintings then cut them out and glued them to a black background. We added more circles in oil pastel to resemble Knadinsky's work.
In Kindergarten we play a game called "statue". Students are shown a famous statue on the Smartboard like Atlas or Degas Little Dancer (in the picture below). We strike a statue pose as if we are frozen in time.
Taking advantage of the Thanksgiving holiday, we made turkey's using primary colors and free form shapes.
This week Kindergarten used warm colors to make fall trees. They also learned that by tearing paper we could make free form shapes that look more like leaves than geometric shapes. Crayon details were added to describe our pictures better. This is similar to the way we use words to develop a sentence or paragraph.
Kindergartener's use shapes to make things in their world. They use lines and color to add details. We discuss how details in our drawings are similar to the details we would use in writing a sentence or a story.
